What’s New at LCS

Thank you to all the family’s who came to Open House on Thursday. It was great to have students back in the buidling and we can’t wait to start on Tuesday! Reminder to parents: Don’t forget to finish your registration on JMC, all your information is in your folder you received at open house. If you have any questions, please contact Megan. Also, any other paperwork from the folders can be turned in throughout the week (medical forms, immunization records, free/reduced lunch application).

As I am sure most of you expected there will be some changes this year. We are working hard to balance safety and providing some feeling of normalcy. Regardless of the situation one thing is for certain, every one of us here at LCS is ecstatic to see our students again. We know there will be some bumps along the way but together we will make this a great year.

Some things to know:

Arrival: When arriving at school either by bus or drop-off, students are to go directly to the classroom. School doors will be locked from 8:30am-3pm. If you need access to the school during the day, please call upon arrival.

Breakfast: Breakfast is optional and you must let the office know if your child can have breakfast, it will come out of their lunch account. Breakfast will be served in the classroom.

Snack: Snack is optional and can be paid for in the office. Snack will be served in the classroom.

Water Bottles: We want students to have access to water throughout the day however, water fountains in school have been disconnected to prevent the spread of germs but the water bottle filling stations still work. So, please send a water bottle daily labeled with your child’s name. Students should bring them home each day, please clean them and return the following day.

Masks: Per the Governor’s mandate masks are required in school unless there is a health concern. Having a mask for each day of the week is ideal however, I realize that is not always doable. It would be great to have at least one extra at school for those just in case days. We will be providing a clean space for mask storage during lunch and recess. We do have a limited number of masks for emergencies.

Home Screenings: Students and families of Lafayette Public Charter School should complete a short screening at home before entering the school building or bus/van. If your child has any of the following symptoms that indicates a possible illness, it may decrease the student’s ability to learn and also put them at risk for spreading illness to others. If your student is experiencing any COVID like symptoms, we ask that they stay home. Symptoms of COVID include the following:

  • Cough, new onset
  • Shortness of breath

It could also include two of the following:

  • Fever, 100.4 or higher
  • Chills
  • Muscle Pain
  • Sore throat
  • Loss of sense of smell or taste
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, or nausea

Thursday, September 17th – We will have our annual parent input meeting at 6:00pm.  We want to encourage you to come, we will discuss our In-Person Learning Model, programs, schedules, and concerns you may have.  This is a great chance for us to hear from you – the stakeholders – and work together in creating goals and plans for the future of LCS.  Please come if you are able.
