Lafayette Public Charter School
May 10th-14th, 2021
What’s New at LCS
As testing winds down and students become more and more excited for summer vacation, we need to remind them that there’s still learning to be done. We have lots of fun things planned for Charter School Week. Just a reminder, students need to be caught up with all their work and testing needs to be completed in order for them to participate. Below are a few reminders pertaining to next weeks activities:
Track & Field Day is on Wednesday, May 19th. Have students dress in layers as the mornings are cooler and the afternoon is much warmer. Don’t forget a water bottle and sunscreen!
The Family Picnic is on Friday, May 21st- weather permitting (if it rains, we will have to cancel and a message will be sent) at 11am. Families will need to bring their own lunch. Students have the option to order a sack lunch through school. We ask that families eat in pods outside. Families can wait outside and teachers will bring the students out to meet you. There will also be an early out at 1pm. Students are allowed to leave with their families but must sign out with their teacher.
We will be celebrating our 8th grade graduates on Wednesday, May 26th. Social hour with cookies and juice will be from 9-9:30 with the ceremony begining at 9:30. Each 8th grader will be given 4 tickets (tickets will go home this week) for their families. The ceremony will be held outside (weather permitting- if rain, it will move to the gym). Any siblings that are students at LCS will be able to join without needing a ticket. Please let Mr. H know if you have any questions.
We’re still looking for families/parents/grandparents to tell us why they love Lafayette Public Charter School. Responses can be sent to your child’s teacher or the LCS office at email@example.com. We also have extra LCS lawn signs available at school. If you’d like one to proudly display at your home, let me know. Thank you to the families that have responded!
We’re asking families to keep their eyes open for a stolen bike. It’s a black and white Huffy with a little rust on the handle. It has a unique seat with a hole in the middle of it. If anyone has seen this bike or knows anything about it’s disappearance, please contact the LCS Office. Thank you for your help!
COVID 19 Testing- Message from Minnesota Department of Education
Minnesota is experiencing high circulation of variants of COVID-19, according to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). Currently, MDH estimates that 60% of all COVID-19 cases in Minnesota are the B.1.1.7. variant, which is a new version of the virus that spreads more easily. The B.1.1.7 variant has caused a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases, with many of them happening in school and youth sports and activities.
MDH is encouraging all students to get a COVID-19 test every other week to identify children who are having no symptoms of COVID-19 but can still be spreading the virus to others.
Additionally, all youth in grades 6-12 who are participating in club or school sports are strongly encouraged to get tested at least once per week for COVID-19. Learn more on the Stay Safe Minnesota – Organized Sports webpage.
As long as students don’t have symptoms and have not been close to someone with COVID-19, they do not need to stay out of school, sports or activities while awaiting test results. Learn more about student COVID-19 testing.
There are several options to get a COVID-19 test at no cost, including:
- Going to a free, in-person community testing sites
- Scheduling a test with your health care provider
- Ordering an at-home test kit and returning the test to school. Our school will be sending shipments to the lab on the following dates: Thursday, May 20th, 2021.
In-person or language line assistance is available at community testing sites. Some testing sites also have COVID Community Coordinators to help walk people through the testing process. Learn more on the COVID Community Coordinator page of the MDH website.
Did you know LCS offers on-site, during the school day, piano lessons? Jeanne Bruss, piano instructor, comes in every Monday from 8am-Noon. She’s accepting new students for the 2021/2022 school year! Please contact Jeanne at firstname.lastname@example.org or 507-317-1965 if you would like more information.
Parent help needed!
May 17th-21st, LCS will be celebrating Charter School Week & Teacher Appreciation Week. LCS staff are busy with planning Charter School Week and are excited to share the activities with the students. LCS PROS are looking for parent volunteers to help with teacher appreciation week. If you would like to provide a meal/snack or, if you have any other ideas of ways to honor our teachers, let any PROS member know. Thank you for your help with this!
Please continue to be cautious with COVID 19. If you or a family member are getting tested for COVID, please keep your children home until test results have been received. Our goal is to keep everyone healthy and safe so we can continue in-person learning for the remainder of the school year.
Thank you for your continued support this school year. Please continue to follow the COVID-19 Decision Tree if you have any concerns or questions regarding your child’s health.
As usual, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
