What’s New at LCS

clobes@lafayettecharter.k12.mn.us

Happy April

The sun is shining, flowers are blooming, the portable greenhouse is filling up, April is here! We have a busy month here at LCS, let’s enjoy it together.

In Search Of: The LCS Ag Committee is in search of a garden tiller or an individual who would kindly till our gardens (2). If you know someone who is willing to help or borrow us their garden tiller, please contact me or the LCS Office. Thank you in advance!

Shout Out- Super Hero Award: I would like to recognize MyKayla Weston as she was awarded the Super Hero Award last week. MyKayla, on her own behalf, stayed with younger students at the bus stop until their parents arrived, so they wouldn’t have to wait alone. Her integrity to want to help and for taking on the resposibility of the younger students when the bus was early to the stop, portrays exactly the kind, caring and responsible student she is. Thank you MyKayla for caring for the younger students on the bus- you’re a wonderful role model!

Summer School: LCS will be offereing a FREE summer school program for Kindergarten-8th graders. The program will run 3 days per week beginning the end of June-the end of July (off the week of July 4th). Families must provide their own transportation. Any families that are interested in signing their students up, please contact your child’s teacher or the LCS Office. More details will be provided at the end of the regular school year.

Heggies Pizza Fundraiser order forms and payments are due on Thursday, April 8th. Please turn those forms in to help support our LCS PROS. Order pickup will be Monday, April 26th after 3pm.

The Pre-K – 2nd graders’ bowling field trip has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 13th. Permission slips will come home this week, please be sure to turn those in. If your family would like to make a monetary donation towards the bowling field trip, donations can be sent to LCS PROS or the LCS office. Also, reminder that wellness bingo cards are due by Friday, April 9th to be eligible for a prize.

This week we will start the MCA Reading tests for grades 3rd-8th. Please ensure your child(ren) are getting a good nights rest, eating a healthy breakfast and are prepared for testing. Join us in cheering them on and encouraging them to try their best!

Thank you for your continued support this school year. Please continue to follow the COVID-19 Decision Tree if you have any concerns or questions regarding your child’s health.

As usual, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Spring Break Travel Guidance

As spring break season is approaching, I wanted to share the CDC guidance on travel. Please consider the guidance when partaking in any spring break travel/activities.

Help Wanted

If you have a 4 year degree and are interested in subbing, LCS is still looking for substitute teachers, paras, food service and office help. Contact Mrs. Clobes if you’re interested.

Green house & Garden Volunteers

Due to COVID, we will not be planting in the outdoor greenhouse this spring. Instead, we hope to use a portable greenhouse to plant in our classrooms! Each class will have the opportunity to plant/grow. We then plan to transplant those vegetables into the garden later this spring. We hope to have enough vegetables for our LCS students in the fall!

We will need some help this summer. We’re currently looking for individuals and/or families to help with the garden. Volunteer duties include watering, weeding and picking produce. If interested, please contact the LCS Office to sign up.

Distance Learning/In Person Learning Options

Currently, we give families the opportunity to attend school in-person or via distance learning. If your family would like to switch to/from either learning model, please let the LCS Office know. We need at least 1 weeks notice to prepare materials/meals/technology/classrooms. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
