What’s New at LCS
clobes@lafayettecharter.k12.mn.us
As we enter the 2nd week of February, it seems that winter has finally arrived. Please remember to send all winter gear- hat, gloves, boots, snowpants, winter coats. Students will not go outside if the temperature is 0 or below or feels like 0 outside.
I would like to welcome back Grandpa DuWayne to LCS! Grandpa DuWayne is offering virtual tutoring to our students in their classroom 4 days per week. Thank you Grandpa DuWayne for your time and dedication to LCS.
In celebrating I love to read month, we’re asking some help from parents. We’re looking for parents who would like to read to our students. You can read a story live to your child’s class or record yourself and send it to your child’s teacher. We love having guest readers in our classroom, let’s see how many we can get!
Last week, students completed their winter AIMS Web testing and did a great job. Mid quarter is coming up on Wednesday, Feb. 17th. Please check your child’s JMC account for missing work. Your child’s teacher is always available to help as well. If you need your log-in information, please contact Megan in the office.
Out of the Office
Megan will be out of the office Monday, Feb. 8th-Thursday, Feb. 11th. Mrs. Pam Grommersch will be available to take phone calls.
Help Wanted
If you have a 4 year degree and are interested in subbing, LCS is still looking for substitute teachers, paras, food service and office help. Contact Mrs. Clobes if you’re interested.
SAVE THE DATE
Pre-K Open House & Kindergarten Round Up will run the week of March 1st. Families will need to sign up for individual visits. Virtual visits will also be offered. See flyer below and contact the LCS Office to reserve your time.
Pandemic-EBT Benefits for Families
Students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals may be eligible for Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) to purchase food for days they are not in the school building. To be considered, households must submit an application for free or reduced-price meals for the 2020-21 school year or be approved for Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Families who received P-EBT benefits last summer are not automatically eligible; eligibility is based on the current school year. Benefits may be retroactive to September 2020, depending on when eligibility for free or reduced-price meals is determined. To ensure you qualify for the meal benefits, please submit your application as soon as possible. More information will be available in the following weeks.
Greenhouse/Garden Volunteers
Due to COVID, we will not be planting in the outdoor greenhouse this spring. Instead, we hope to use a portable greenhouse to plant in our classrooms! Each class will have the opportunity to plant/grow. We then plan to transplant those vegetables into the garden later this spring. We hope to have enough vegetables for our LCS students in the fall!
We will need some help this summer. We’re currently looking for individuals and/or families to help with the garden. Volunteer duties include watering, weeding and picking produce. If interested, please contact the LCS Office to sign up.
Distance Learning/In Person Learning Options
Currently, we give families the opportunity to attend school in-person or via distance learning. If your family would like to switch to/from either learning model, please let the LCS Office know. We need at least 1 weeks notice to prepare materials/meals/technology/classrooms. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
