What’s New at LCS

We have a busy week ahead at LCS!

I want to send an invitation to all LCS students and families to join us this Thursday, Oct. 7th, for our PTO Family STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) Night Activity. Raelin Schmidt, a local artist, will be instructing a fall themed directive painting project along with pumpkins to paint. We will also be holding the School Board elections from 3pm-6pm. I encourage all families to cast their vote. Thank you to those interested in serving & representing LCS. Below you will find a short biography of each candidate:

Teacher Candidate- My name is Ashley Walters, and this will be my 10th year teaching at LCS. This year I am teaching 1st grade.  I also have a daughter attending Kindergarten at LCS. I attended Winona State University and graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education (K-6), Early Childhood Education (Birth-3rdgrade), and Pre-Primary (Age 3-K).  I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, scrapbooking, gardening, and spending time at the lake.

Teacher Candidate- My name is Barb Wenninger and I am starting my 4th year as the Physical Education/Health teacher here at Lafayette Public Charter School.  I have been in teaching in one form or another for my entire adult life.  I am married to a great guy by the name of Kevin, and we were blessed with two children.

If I have the opportunity to be on the school board at LCS I will strive to continue to bring to all families an education that will help to prepare them for the next step in their educational journey.  I feel privileged every day that the parents at this school allow me the opportunity to be a part of their child’s education.  I look forward to the possibility of serving the parents and their children as a school board member.

Parent Candidate- My name is Courtney Wyczawski, my family moved to the City of New Ulm 3 years ago from Baltimore, Maryland. I have three daughters, Taylor (12), Lucy (9) and Lorelei (7). I currently work from home as a Commercial Insurance Account Manager. I have worked extensively in the insurance industry for over 15 years. My husband, Trent is a tattoo artist at Mecca Tattoo in Mankato.

I enjoy DIY home projects, reading and watching movies with my family.

I take the education of all of our children seriously, and am looking forward to being more involved in the organization and implementation of our schools’ policies. Stability and freedom to a quality education is what our students and parents deserve.

Parent Candidate- My name is Curt Tauber and I am interested in filling one of the open school board positions. Jessica and I have lived in Lafayette with our 6 children for the last 15 years. Three of our children have attended Lafayette Charter School.  I am currently a Lafayette City Council member and am the coach for the Lafayette Girls Fastpitch Softball team. I take great pride in our small community and strive to be involved in local organizations to promote positive changes within our town. I would love the opportunity to serve on the LCS school board to help ensure it continues to reflect our small town values!

Community Member Candidate- Hello, my name is Colin Hoffman. I grew up in the Lake Hanska area and attended school at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s. I have currently been working at Citizens Bank MN for 2 ½ years and the last 6 months as the Branch Manager for the Lafayette branch. Recently, I have joined the local Lafayette Area Lions Club.  I would like to be a part of the LCS School Board to support the community and allow a safe learning environment for students to excel. As a recent graduate, I know the importance of offering an authentic style of learning to prepare students for real world situations.

Also this week, we have picture re-takes (Tuesday), Fire Prevention with the Lafayette Fire Department (Tuesday), hearing & vision screening (remind your child to have their glasses with them) on Wednesday and early out on Friday. As always, contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

Mrs. Clobes

Parents Reaching out for Students (PROS)

Parents Reaching Out for Students (PROS) is a non-profit organization led by parents and teachers of LCS. PROS was created to help promote and enhance the school district through events, and to include fundraising involving students, parents, and community. The PROS committee meets the second Tuesday of every month in person & via Zoom. All are welcome to attend. There are so many things that we are able to do at this school as a direct result of the fundraising efforts of the PROS team. One of the greatest benefits to students is transportation costs of field trips and the field trip as well. If you would like to get involved in PROS, Parents Reaching Out for Students, please contact your child’s teacher.

LCS is looking for donations of pumpkins- any size, any color. Pumpkins will be used for our upcoming STEAM/PTO night on Oct. 7th. Any donations can be brought to the LCS Office.  We will also be offering a directed pumpkin painting activity that night with an area artist Raelin Schmidt.

School-Linked Mental Health Services- Sioux Trails Mental Health Services

LCS is excited to partner with Sioux Trails Mental Health services for the 2021/22 school year. School Linked Mental Health (SLMH) increases accessibility of mental health services for underserved populations by providing outpatient therapy and CTSS services within the school setting. Referrals can be made through your child’s teacher or the LCS Director (Mrs. Clobes) and will be routed to Sioux Trails professionals working within that school setting. More information is available upon request.

Garden Produce

LCS is looking for garden produce to use for our Ag, snack & lunch program. If you or anyone you know has extras from their garden, feel free to bring it in. Thank you!

Reminder: LCS is still accepting free & reduced lunch applications for the 2021/22 school year.
