What’s New at LCS

petersen@lafayettecharter.k12.mn.us

October is off to a great start at LCS! This week is a short week with MEA fall break (Thursday & Friday- no school). Use this break to enjoy time with your family and relax. We will resume school on Monday (Oct. 19th) which brings us to only 2 weeks left in this 1st quarter. Time sure flies and we’re enjoying every minute! Happy Fall!

Lego League Update

We have a lot of students involved in Lego League this year! This is great, but we need to make some changes in order to make it awesome for everyone involved. We have a lot of young students this year that are not quite ready for the patience that learning how to program and write code requires. Also we are limited to a maximum of 10 on the team and we have 17 involved. So we are going to break into 2 activities. On Tuesdays we will have the older students working on writing code and programming the robots. On Thursdays the younger students (grade 3) will come and we will work on easier lego building projects such as stop motion videos and simpler building challenges. The older students will also come on Thursdays to keep working on their programs on their own, but the focus will be on the younger group.
Summary:
  • Tuesdays only grade 4 and up, focus on programming
  • Thursdays everybody comes, the focus is on grade 3 lego projects
  • We also are looking for parent volunteers for Thursdays. Let Mr. Johnson know if you are interested in helping.
